The 30th Annual “Rick Case Bikes For Kids” Program Provides Children In Need With Bikes This Holiday Season

Fort Lauderdale, FL (November 2, 2011) – The “Rick Case Bikes for Kids” program, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, has provided thousands of needy children with a bicycle during the holidays since 1982, and is now collecting bikes for the 2011 holiday season from now through December 20, 2011. All bikes collected are distributed through area Boys & Girls Clubs as well as other charity organizations.
Many South Florida children are not fortunate enough to have a bike of their own. Fortunately, the Rick Case Bikes for Kids program, launched in 1982 by Rita and Rick Case of the Rick Case Automotive Group, has been making that dream a reality for needy children for 29 years. Rick Case Bikes for Kids makes it easy to get involved and help a needy child. Bikes in good condition are now being collected for the holiday season at any of the following Rick Case locations:

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Host The 3rd Annual “Future Tastes Great” Iron Chef Competition
Teens have the opportunity to team up and compete with Broward’s best chefs in this culinary fundraiser
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (October 26, 2011) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County (BGCBC) will host the third annual “Future Tastes Great” Iron Chef Competition 6:30 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Hugh’s Culinary in Oakland Park. This unique and entertaining fundraiser will raise the necessary funds to operate the BGCBG Culinary Arts program which is located at the North Lauderdale Levine/Slaughter Boys & Girls Club. The Culinary Arts program is just is one of the many specialized Career Exploration Programs that are available for BGCBC’s teen members to help introduce them to alternative career opportunities.
Participating chef’s and culinary experts from Michelle’s Dining & Lounge, Café Maxx, Blue Moon, D’Angelo’s, and Hugh’s just to name a few will treat guests to culinary delights. Chef Teresa Ruiz of the Boys & Girls Club’s Culinary Arts Program will also participate with assistance from her students. Sponsored teams consisting of one chef and BGCBC youth assistants will partner to create magic in the kitchen. Each team will be given the same ingredients and will then be judged in a cook-off. Guests will enjoy an exclusive dinner prepared by some of Broward’s best chefs in addition to wine tastings, libations, live entertainment and a silent auction.
“It is very humbling to have the opportunity to work with the staff and volunteers of the Boys & Girls Clubs,” said Kim Hackett, Levine/Slaughter Advisory Board Member and Future Tastes Great Chairwoman. “This event is all about the kids and the Culinary Arts Program that helps develop new skills and open doors to the world of culinary opportunities for our teen members.”

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (October 25, 2011) – The Bougainvilla House, a new residential facility that offers emotional and financial support to the families of terminally ill children, hosted an exclusive kick-off celebration with celebrity guests Penelope Ann Miller and Dennis Haysbert on Friday, October 21 from 7-9pm.
The Bougainvilla House recently blossomed from the Fort Lauderdale-based HospiceCare of Southeast Florida, Inc., a well-known and respected organization that has served the people of Broward, Dade and Monroe counties for more than 30 years. Continuing the mission to provide care to those in need, The Bougainvilla House will offer transportation, accommodations, meals, bereavement counselors, and therapists to all guests, regardless of their ability to pay.
The private kick-off celebration was held at the waterfront residence of Janet Davis, President and CEO of the new Bougainvilla House, along with Gregory von Hausch, President and CEO of the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF). Guests, including actor and FLIFF honoree Beau Bridges, enjoyed cocktails, hors d ’oeuvres and live entertainment to celebrate the launch of this special organization.
Celebrity guest Penelope Ann Miller is known for her memorable Gold Globe-nominated role in Carlito’s Way, The Freshman, Penny Marshall’s Awakening, Chaplin, and Kindergarten Cop. Miller’s next project The Artist, a black and white silent film by Weinstein Company, will be released November 23, 2011. The unique film has earned universal kudos at film festivals around the world.
Also joining the celebration was actor Dennis Haysbert who is known not only for his legendary talent, but for having one of the most recognizable voices in Hollywood. Haysbert small screen roles include David Palmer in the hit series 24 and Sergeant Major Jones in the drama series The Unit. In 2005, Arthur Benjamin was deeply disturbed by the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina for animals. Thus, Arthur and his five pound adopted poodle, Buddy, co-founded American Dog Rescue to place healthy dogs in permanent homes that are the right fit for the animal and its family. Based in Fort Lauderdale, Canine Assisted Therapy (C.A.T.) is a 501(c)(3) founded in August 2009 to address the need of companionship and to provide unconditional love to those in need in nursing homes, hospitals, hospice, etc. C.A.T. recruits volunteers and their dogs.
