The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County Host The 3rd Annual “Future Tastes Great” Iron Chef Competition

 

Teens have the opportunity to team up and compete with Broward’s best chefs in this culinary fundraiser

 

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (October 26, 2011) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County (BGCBC) will host the third annual “Future Tastes Great” Iron Chef Competition 6:30 p.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Hugh’s Culinary in Oakland Park. This unique and entertaining fundraiser will raise the necessary funds to operate the BGCBG Culinary Arts program which is located at the North Lauderdale Levine/Slaughter Boys & Girls Club.  The Culinary Arts program is just is one of the many specialized Career Exploration Programs that are available for BGCBC’s teen members to help introduce them to alternative career opportunities.

Participating chef’s and culinary experts from Michelle’s Dining & Lounge, Café Maxx,  Blue Moon, D’Angelo’s, and Hugh’s just to name a few will treat guests to culinary delights. Chef Teresa Ruiz of the Boys & Girls Club’s Culinary Arts Program will also participate with assistance from her students. Sponsored teams consisting of one chef and BGCBC youth assistants will partner to create magic in the kitchen. Each team will be given the same ingredients and will then be judged in a cook-off. Guests will enjoy an exclusive dinner prepared by some of Broward’s best chefs in addition to wine tastings, libations, live entertainment and a silent auction.

“It is very humbling to have the opportunity to work with the staff and volunteers of the Boys & Girls Clubs,” said Kim Hackett, Levine/Slaughter Advisory Board Member and Future Tastes Great Chairwoman. “This event is all about the kids and the Culinary Arts Program that helps develop new skills and open doors to the world of culinary opportunities for our teen members.”

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County joined the national organization in 1965 and have grown along with the movement. We now have 12 facilities with a membership of over 12,000 youth, making us one of the largest Boys & Girls Club organizations in the nation. We are a nonprofit 501(C) (3) private agency. We rely on funding raised by our Board of Directors, special events, general donations, corporate sponsors, foundation support, endowments, and the Broward County government.
